Time for a cold one. Got any big plans for the weekend?

Pretty slow for us. I’ve got to take my oldest for a physical. Texas now requires physicals for kids in marching band. The local medical conglomerates, seeing an opportunity, are offering physicals for $20. At least it’s less than a copay. Maybe a soccer game Saturday night. My family is volunteering at the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on Sunday. It’s a pretty awesome organization.

Have a great weekend, Oppo.

Not only is it Friday but it’s Friday before a week’s vacation. Sticking around home for the most part but we might head up toward the border and see if there are any huckleberries left. The berries would be a bonus as it’s mostly for the drive. Doing a fancy steak place to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday so that will be good. Also aiming to finish up putting the Camaro back together. The intake is on, the distributor is in and the carb is in place so it’s mostly done. Just the fiddly things left.

Teacher work day. Planning in the morning (prepping information for the first day of school), departmental cookoff in the afternoon.

Sunday...get ready for Monday. Brand new 6th graders, fantastic old 7th graders, and a handful of 8th graders that already have senioritis.

Still celebrating dry July...I’m almost through.

No alcohol for the month.

I also am participating in a hot wing fundraiser. Think The Hot Ones from youtube. Last year I made it to wing 8. Can’t wait to suffer for charity.

* Disclaimer, I started dry July after the 4th of July holiday because America. So I am carrying it through August 7th.

My oldest, a newly-minted trumpet section leader and rising junior, has been working with the newbies this week. Next week begins summer band practice. My younger twins will be 8th graders, returning to Honors Band. They have a new director this year, the third director in three years. Not an optimal situation, but the new director looks solid. She’s a trumpet player, after all....

At the drug store I worked at, we sold Piels for 99¢ for  a six pack.

Weekend plans, tomorrow is my neighborhood car show, so I’m curious to see what folks in my hood have. Neighbors invites us next door for a bbq. I’m hoping on Sunday to get out for another drive.

I think I’m going to try for a dry August. Maybe I should have chosen February....

This post got me doing some research on Piel’s. I have vague memories of commercials for it back in the day. I also read about  how dirt cheap it was. In grad school, I drank a lot of Schaefer, another of the old NYC brews, because it was also dirt cheap. Peil’s is actually making a comeback in a limited area around the City. Probably not for a buck a six, though.

I used to laugh because the deposit was 1/3 the price of a sixer! Genese e used to be $7/30pk. Deposit was half the price! Fun fact, Genesee used to be owned by one of my uncles.

IDK, alcohol in winter is easier to deal with for dehydration. If I had to, dry summer > dry winter.

Cowering indoors away from the heat. We had a decent (for Houston) cool front this week, but of course it was in the middle of the week when I was crazy busy at work.  Will have to get up early to get my run in, and drive the E28 before it gets too hot in the day.

I pick up the fintail from its yearly servicing/inspection this evening, Sunday is its annual detail day in advance of the big club meeting in 2 weeks. A couple coats of wax, polish the chrome, clean the interior - although it isn’t really dirty anyway.

Tomorrow is my first skating/hockey practice in 3 weeks, gonna be rusty, and my right leg has been sore this week anyway.  Getting old, fun!

Don’t think I’ve ever had a Genesee. Or maybe I did back in the late 80s when I visited a friend in Rochester? Don’t remember.

Wait, less than a copay? Every insurance I’ve ever had has done an annual physical for free, as preventative  medicine that may save them big costs down the road. Granted, I do tend to opt for more expensive plans, I don’t know at what level (if any) that benefit drops away.

We do get free annual exams. But if I had to schedule a separate physical then I’d likely have to pay $30.

My weekend plans are to return to work. This month I have Thursday and Friday off, and work 1800/0300 over the weekend. But it’s the last work week before I take a LoA for 7 weeks or so. Now I will have fewer excuses for not getting stuff done around the house (refinish the front door, recaulk the upstairs bathtub, put in a new screen, fix weatherstripping, etc.) I may even take my old Cannondale out of storage  and start riding again.

I turned this into a two-and-a-half day weekend. Day one? Did nothing....

I need to do an oil change and tire rotation on the Outback tomorrow. I also need to install a drip irrigation system for the front flower bed so my wife quits watering the house.

Fun times.

I don’t. The director their first year left suddenly and went back to Houston, though remains on good terms with directors here in town. His replacement, who was promoted from assistant at another school, had one successful year and then decided to leave teaching altogether. In the case of the first director, there may have been some issues with the administration, but I was unable to get any info despite my connections. The second guy I guess just decided he didn’t like the life. No idea. Here’s hoping the third director works out. We’ve only got one more year, though.

Here is the variety pack that I buy...

Kinja'd!!!

But I'm guessing you wouldn't care for it if you don't like IPAs.  I think they have another beer option, in cans, but I don't think I've had it.  Why can't they sample the beer?  :-D
